The Gospel
I became a Christian at the very young age of 5. I was raised in a Christian home and my parents were very intentional about making sure that we were involved in church. We went everytime the doors were open, and I enjoyed it. So, I knew what sin was. I knew that sin was not being obedient. I knew who Jesus was. I knew that he loved me and that he died on the cross. I knew that Jesus was God. I knew about heaven and hell. I knew all these things and probably assumed from my time at church that I was a Christian. However, all this information never really clicked in my mind. I had all of the pieces but I hadn't put them together. Then one Sunday morning my pastor decided that he was going to preach on the reality of hell. He made me aware that hell was a terrible place that was the punishment for sin. It freaked me out, so after church I asked my parents about what the pastor had said. They told me it was true so I asked them what I needed to do to not go there. Later that afternoon my parents pulled me aside and asked me some basic questions. They asked me what sin was and I told them it was when I did bad things. They asked me who Jesus was and I told them that he was God and that he died on the cross. Then my parents filled me in on the details. They told me that Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for my sins, and that if I confessed of my sin and believed in my heart that Jesus was God then I would be saved. Then they led me through a simple sinner's prayer. When we got done they asked me what had just happened and I told them that Jesus was living in my heart. I was so excited that I immediately went and woke up my 4 year old brother and led him through the same prayer that my mom and dad had just led me through.
How to Become A Christian
I am a Christian. That means that I profess to have a personal relationship with my God, Jesus Christ. We live in a world that is full of sin. Sin is what we call things that we did or maybe didn't do that we knew to be wrong. Sin is what separates us from God. Romans 3:23, in the Bible, says, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." That means that no one can live a life that is good enough to deserve Heaven without the price being paid for our sin. Romans 6:23, in the Bible, says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Jesus Christ paid the price for our sin so that we can have that relationship with him. Romans 5:8, in the Bible, says, "but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Isn't that wonderful? This is what has changed my life. So now the only question that is left to ask is, "What do I need to do now?" Romans 10:9, in the Bible, says, "because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." It is that simple. However, living a Christian life is not always easy.
If you made that confession sincerely, then you need to get involved with a local evangelical church. Being a Christian involves being a part of a community of believers that will help disciple you.
If that wasn't as clear as it needs to be for you, or maybe you just don't understand the bigger picture, then I would encourage you to visit ViewTheStory.com or watch the video below.
